President Yoweri Museveni has described the recent attempt on the life of Gen Edward Katumba Wamala as “politically” motivated and its perpetrators as “bankrupt.”
The President who also termed the attackers as pigs, reassured that they will soon be apprehended.
The June 1st attack on the former CDF in Kisaasi Kampala, left the minister’s daughter and driver dead.
Speaking today at the reading of this year’s national budget, Museveni said the attack couldn’t possibly have been orchestrated by him or anyone in the NRM government, but a political opponent.
“This business of people who use assignations; these are people who are not sure of themselves,” he said.
“The NRM never uses assassinations because we are sure of ourselves. Why should I kill you because you are opposing me? If I’m right and you are wrong, why do I kill you? I should preserve you so that you continue making your mistakes and people see that I am the one who is right.”
The President further noted that this was the reason he didn’t kill his political opponents.
“It is bankrupt to kill people. If had killed (Dr Kizza) Besigye, he would be a hero in the memory of people. That is how Jesus became a hero.”
Meanwhile, President Museveni used the occasion to appeal to a person who picked a piece of cloth that was reportedly dropped by the four attacks who tried to kill minister Katumba, to return it.
Museveni revealed that during the attack, one of the four criminals dropped a piece of cloth, which was however picked by the locals that rushed to the crime scene.
“One of them dropped a cloth, it is in the videos; Lokech (Deputy IGP) told me. But our people picked the cloth and took it away. They should not have touched that cloth because it has got all the story about you. It has got your DNA, your sweat, we can take it to the lab and the results will show us who you are.”
“The person who took the cloth wronged us and if you still have it please bring it back. Although you have added you own sweat, may be there is a chance it can still help us if you haven’t washed it.
