Global National: April 17, 2020 | Trudeau announces $1.7B in funding for energy sector

Abigail Bimman and David Akin cover our top story tonight as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government pledges $1.7 billion in funding to clean up orphaned wells in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, part of a plan to keep people working during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Progress is starting to be made in the fight against COVID-19, but Dr. Theresa Tam says that the progress could be lost if Canadians stop social distancing.

As well, Eric Sorensen reports on B.C.’s latest COVID-19 projections, and Redmond Shannon joins us with more on how the COVID-19 pandemic is hitting care homes in Europe.

Also tonight, we have more on the plan to extend Canadian and U.S. border restrictions. Jackson Proskow has the latest from the Washington including Trump lashing out at U.S. governors.

Finally, Mike Armstrong reports on the 50th anniversary of Apollo 13 mission.
